KingFisher 40 is an expedition type yacht designed specifically for long-distance voyages. This yacht is purpose-built for blue water sailing and has successfully completed three circumnavigations, fully ready for a fourth.
Sold by YBC to her present owners, they came to Langkawi seeking a well found yacht to circumnavigate and they have returned some years later with this very capable yacht. Built in 1983 in New Zealand, the boat has been continually retrofitted by all owners and features a comprehensive ship's manual detailing all modifications made.

The yacht has one entrance from the cockpit to the saloon. In the saloon there is a double bed transformable into a table and a sofa + sofa across the aisle. In the saloon there is also a galley: stove on a hanger with oven, sink with sea and fresh water, refrigerator and freezer.. From the saloon we get to a small corridor (a toilet-shower door), and from there to the forward cabin with one bunk and an anchor box.
The aft cabin is accessed through the corridor. Double bed, hatch to the outside, portholes. Very bright cabin. All cabins have fans. The boat has excellent ventilation provided in all weather by the 5 Dorado air intakes. In addition, the walls and ceilings of all rooms above the waterline are glued with 2 cm insulating boards. There are two diesel fired heaters that were made by the present owners and they have yet to be used.. the Japan route around was cancelled and the route followed instead was the tropical route.. but these heaters will be perfect for high latitude sailing.
Excellent sea going galley. Two burner gas stove and oven. 600 litre 12volt fridge ( 4-6 amps ) and 600 litre freezer. New fridge compressor in 2010. Double sink, foot pumped fresh and salt water. There is plenty of stainless steel countertop and cupboard space plus five drawers close to hand.
One deck freshwater shower

Additional charging by total capacity of 680 W solar panels c/w TriStar MPPT Morningstar controller. Charger TBS Electronics 220/12-40.
Ford 2700E diesel engine, 4 liters, 72 hp. One of the most mass-produced engines in the world, which were produced in many countries around the world - no problems with spare parts. The engine was also intended for tractors, so it is designed for large roll and pitch angles without oil starvation.
The fuel system is equipped with a day fuel tank from which the fuel flows by gravity, so the engine only needs electricity when starting. A seawater pump can be used to pump water out of the bilge.
Borg Velvet drive hydraulic transmission.
The engine was overhauled in 2018 with many parts and components replaced, including the fuel injector camshaft, engine valves, injectors, etc.
In 2018, the rubber-metal joint was replaced with a Python Drive joint. This reduced vibration and stress on the propeller shaft, prop bearing and Goodrich bearing in motor-sailing mode when the motor shifts on the pads on roll.
Instruments: Tachometer, coolant temperature, oil pressure, hour meter, KYSOR alarm system.
The engine and transmission have been serviced, filters and fluids have been replaced according to schedule.
Classic ketch. The masts are made of aluminum alloy of oval section. Mainsail mast 14 m, two spreaders, mizzen mast 9m, one spreader. Both masts are for top Bermuda sails, mainsail mast is held by forestay and babystay against two backstays + shrouds from spreaders and top (12 cables in total), mizzen mast - by backstays plus shrouds and forestay (9 cables in total). The masts are made with internal wiring of halyards, the mainmast is equipped with steps to facilitate climbing to the top. The mainsail mast is equipped with a second mast track for the trisail, which allows you to put it without removing the mainsail. The stays and shrouds have been replaced as needed, there is a chart with the dates of replacement. The shrouds are fixed on reinforced shroud plates on the bulwark.
Main, mizzen and spinnaker booms are made of aluminum alloy.
Halyards, topen lifts, clew reef lines to the winches on the masts, sheets to the winches in the cockpit. Halyards, lines, blocks, winches - in working condition, without signs of wear. All ropes were removed on long anchorages, winches were regularly serviced.
The gennaker and spinnaker are in socks. There is also an exotic mizzen-jib, never used.
All sails are in good condition. The mizzen and gennaker are new, the mainsail and genoa are after quality repairs.
